The jongo, a rhythm considered the father of samba carioca, is an intangible heritage of the southeast of Brasil listed by IPHAN since 2005 at the request of Jongo da Serrinha. Created in the 1970s by the Monteiro family on the hundred year old Morro da Serrinha, the musical group solidified itself as one of the main references of Afro-Brazilian culture in the country and in 2000 expanded and created an NGO to develop its mission of developing a just and sustainable society through its in culture, education, community development and income creation.
